Western Builders has a great opportunity to join our team as a General Superintendent.
POSITION SUMMARY Reporting directly to the President, the General Superintendent oversees all field personnel & all phases of a construction project, from initial planning to profitable completion, while assuring project expectations for Safety, Schedule, and Quality.
The General Superintendent is responsible for facilitating the implementation of Company goals and initiatives as defined by the President.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS PROJECT OVERSIGHT & MANAGEMENT Oversee and manage the successes and failures of operations in the field, across all active projects.
Work together with this position's office counterpart - the Project Executive - to guide PMs and Superintendent to resolve project problems.
Use knowledge and experience of Building Code and permitting process to assist project team navigating through local jurisdiction requirements, Life safety, TCO & CO.
Work side by side with project managers and superintendents to maintain a harmonious balance of safe, productive and high-quality construction.
Provide feedback on plans & specifications during bidding and/or preconstruction.
Actively participate in subcontractor buy-out and scope review interviews, providing feedback on Subcontractors.
Coach, mentor, teach and train Superintendents on scheduling, planning, coordinating, and executing work in the field.
Assist project managers, superintendents, estimators, and preconstruction manager with generating the baseline project schedule.
Review, provide feedback and recommendations.
Work with project teams to maintain and update schedules.
Work with Western management to develop, document and implement standard operating procedures (SOP) for the field.
Establish and enforce job/project discipline that aligns with these standards.
Identify, troubleshoot, and provide corrective recommendations as problems are detected on-site.
Communicate at all levels of the organization to ensure efficient and effective operations.
Relay communications appropriately to the Client, when necessary.
Develop business relationships and networking contacts and assist with the pursuit of new business opportunities Schedule and coordinate WB labor force - carpenters and laborers.
Encourage utilizing the Yard for rentals on equipment and tools.
Manage the budget for Superintendent overhead expenses.
Hold quarterly meetings with Superintendents to help convey, enact, and check progress on the implementation of strategic goals of the President.
Conduct performance reviews of Site Superintendents.
SAFETY Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, health & safety laws.
Ensure the corporate safety program is fully implemented and followed on all jobs; be a safety champion.
Be a leader, build a culture of teamwork & encourage the incentive safety program.
Identify habitual offenders, common problems and patterns and communicate with the safety team.
Proactively consult with VP corporate safety & Safety officers, PM's, and Superintendents to identify safety challenges unique to a project early, during planning and preconstruction.
Provide input on solutions as this may impact pricing/budgeting.
QUALIFICATIONS Ability to provide project leadership and positively motivate teams to produce quality constructions with time frames.
Ability to understand and implement construction documents such as drawings, estimates, etc.
Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time while maintaining attention to detail.
Knowledge and ability to implement Federal and State regulations.
Knowledge of following a budget, hiring personnel and supervision.
Strong technical, business management and communication skills.
Conflict resolution skills including the ability to foster a respectful open communicative environment, be an active listener, perceive and understand other peoples' emotions as well as your own, have patience & take the time to equally consider all options before implementing a solution.
Proficient using a computer / iPad and company communication tools, such as email, Microsoft 365, DocuSign & construction software Procore or similar Must be dependable and willing to travel locally between projects.
Must have an excellent work ethic and team-oriented attitude.
Maintain a valid driver's license REQUIRED Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering or equivalent education and experience.
